The overall appearance of breasts might be an area of concern for most of the women. The way it looks, the shape, size and volume it, everything comes into matter when you are conscious about your looks. But is there a solution if it starts to excessively bother you? Or silently accepting the natural shape is the only possible way? Decades have passed and the medical field is far more advanced now, never letting you live with that discomfort. So what’s that solution you’re looking for? It’s Breast Augmentation.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Breast Augmentation is a transformative surgery that uses implants or fat graft to change the shape, size, and volume of the breasts according to your desire. Many women choose breast surgery after facing physical changes from pregnancy and aging, but this procedure is also a great pick for those who’ve always felt unsatisfied and inconvenient with the appearance of their breasts. The procedure involves placing breast implants under breast tissue or chest muscles.

For some women, breast augmentation is a way to feel more confident. For others, it’s part of rebuilding the breast for various conditions.

What are the misconceptions about Breast Augmentation?

Breast Augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures, with the highest satisfaction rates from patients. The procedure is well known for dramatically improving a woman’s confidence and outlook. Yet misconceptions about the procedure continue, keeping many women who might benefit from it from learning more.

Let us checkout some major misconceptions that are still prevailing around Breast Augmentation.

1)Breasts With Implants Look and Feel Fake

Extreme augmentations can look fake, but those are the unfortunate exceptions, not a rule. An expert plastic surgeon tailors the implants to the proportions of your body, hence taking away the fake looks. The choice of size, type, and placement of implants make this a highly customized procedure, with results that complement the natural lines and curves of your body.

2)Active Women Should Not Have Implants

A number of active women have breast implants, including marathon runners and martial arts instructors. As part of the procedure’s planning process, a skilled plastic surgeon will ask you about your lifestyle and the look you want to achieve.

Serious runners could consider having smaller implants and they may be placed behind the chest wall muscles instead of placing them inside the breast tissue. Smaller implants and strategic placement can give a more feminine look without interfering with sports performance. Women with active lifestyles can — and do —add volume and curves without constraint on their movements.

3) Implants Lift Sagging Breasts

Breast implants add volume and give a better  shape to your breasts, but in fact,  they aren’t the solution for sagging breasts. However, breast augmentation with a lift is certainly a better option. A breast lift removes excess skin and pulls the breasts up for a younger look. The combined procedure resculpts your breasts for a bigger cup size without the sag.

4) Breast Implants Need to Be Replaced Every 10 Years

It’s a very common myth that breast implants have a specific expiration date. While it’s true that breast implants don’t last forever, it’s common for them to last without problems for 15 years or even longer.

To be more clear, if a saline implant leaks, it deflates, causing a cosmetic issue but no health effects. If a silicone implant leaks, it will need to be surgically removed. However, a capsule formation around the implant may happen causing it to be visible in very few patients even after 10-15 years.

With either implant type, you’ll have a way of replacing the implants or simply removing them,  possibly with a breast lift. You might also decide, at any time, to remove or replace the implants because you want to change the size of your breasts.

5) Women with Implants Can’t Breastfeed

Breast augmentation shouldn’t affect your ability to breastfeed whatsoever. If you discuss this concern as part of your consultation, the surgeon can insert the implant without disturbing the tissue around the nipple. Implants don’t affect the quality of breast milk either. You would be more relieved to know that researchers have found no traces of silicone in the milk produced by mothers with silicone implants.

6)Any Cosmetic Surgeon is eligible to  perform Breast Augmentation

You might be knowing that breast augmentation requires specialized medical training, extensive experience, and a strong aesthetic sense. However you might have heard the opposite way. For this reason, always look for a board-certified plastic surgeon if you are looking forward to getting an  implant. That certification is a baseline credential that assures the training and skill to perform the procedure well. But you also want to screen based on the extent of the surgeon’s experience and actual results. Review credentials, ask how many breast augmentations the surgeon has performed, and look at before-and-after pictures before you make your choice.

Now that you have got an idea about the misconceptions that exist about breast augmentation, make sure that you never fall for them and find the best surgeon in town to get it done.
